I watched the movie a couple weeks ago with my daughter and we were cracking up over the terminology, likening it to JW. Most amusing.

Reminder: Hate speech on this forum is NOT tolerated
by Simon insome of the comments on the anthony morris topics have been despicable.. if someone is an idiot or a biggot then they are damaging themselves.. if 'we' start posting vile filth, insults and threats then it doesn't convince anyone other than we're probably as bad..

Rotary, Lions Club & Kiwanis, etc
by 4thgen inlike so many have said on this site, it is hard to begin again and make new friends.
this has been a real challenge for me.
i recently joined a local rotary club and have become acquainted with some very dedicated business people (some retired), wanting to be of service to others.

Good for you! I volunteer with our local art centers and have met great people and attended some stellar events for free.
I also recently joined a book club which has been nice.
Isn't it funny how these groups you mentioned were vilified while we were growing up, yet they seem to accomplish more than JW's preaching over a billion hours per year. Imagine what those hours could accomplish if put to a useful purpose.
I still haven't convinced myself to join the YMCA as I work out outside right now, but my best friend joined (also faded jw) and when she accidnetally said something to her mom about, the mom (jw) freaked out. Lol
Enjoy your new relationships and the fact that you are helping people out!

Avoid or call them back?
by Angus Beef indaughter missed a call from an elder tonight...we've missed meetings for about a month now.
she is dating a worldly guy and i'm sure someone has seen them together.
makes us nervous and with us being fairly new to the fading facet... should she call or avoid.

Keep avoiding. I didn't answer two text requests for my time and here we are 7 months later with no one has bothering us.

Should I meet with the elders?
by winnie12 inso i posted my story somewhere on this board but long story short i have been expressing my doubts to my mom who is a jw.
i have been fading since december 2013 and went to a sunday meeting for the first time maybe two weeks ago.
i went only because i wanted to use the library that my hall has which had books published by the society from the early 1900's.

Yikes, I missed your intro post, but welcome! Tread lightly. You sound young...I researched countless hours on my own online before I made a decision to fade. I live far from family so that option worked for me. You'll get lots of good advice on here. Wish you the best. Respect your mom and try to refrain from telling, but instead utilize the questioning method.
Carpe diem!

Dead pregnant woman forced to stay on life support, due to TX State law
by adamah inthere's an interesting medicolegal issue arising out of tx, a pregnant women who suffered a pulmonary embolism in november and died (when she was 14 weeks pregnant).. however, the body has been kept on life-support all this time (against her and her husband's wishes), due to an ambiguous tx state law (tex hs.
code ann.
166.049) which actually blocks the ability of the patient and family to decide:.

My friend and I just talked about this case on our jog.
We've both had children born (now deceased) where if NATURE had been allowed to take its course these newborns would have each died at birth. Unfortunately, for everyone involved, the hospital (nurses) wouldn't honor our DNR wishes. The doctors were honest and gave us each facts and no false promises. Each child was doomed never to eat on their own, suffer cerebral palsy, not walk etc. In my situation Hope Hospice loving got involved and let NATURE take its course and my baby passed away at 6 weeks.
My friend unfortunately had 7 years of emotional distress and a baby that never came home. Her hospital was a Cathilic hospital and they flat out told her they would not honor her DNR wishes. Mind you, each of our babies hearts had stopped but the nurses refused to honor What we signed. I did not look into the legal issues at that time. the doctors somehow got Hope Hospice involved for us. There is no logic used by some hospitals and those in a position of authority in some of these situations. Quality of life does matter and it's painful and upsetting to see the rights to that taken away.
Adamah, your points are incredibly interesting, if a bit lengthy and I hope you don't feel I derailed your thread in any way :)

First post in years
by voodoo lady inwhen i was last here, my mother had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
there were potential issues regarding transfusion, none of which eventuated.
she undertook a course of chemo which worked quickly and effectively, with minimal side-effects.

I'm sorry for what you went through. You were doing what needed to be done and someone has to keep it together when taking care of an ill person.
Until I saw a young mother die from cancer and the denial that we were all in during the end, I really never thought about how much we fight the inevitable (Death) to the detriment of the one dying.
Over this past summer I read Mortality by Hitchens. I had not read anything by him and wasn't sure what to expect. I came away wishing I had read it before this mother I knew passed away. It helped me make peace with the guilt I felt over the way I handled things at the end, where what she wanted was people to accept what was happening and not be so upbeat and cheerful that she could beat terminal liver cancer.
Now that I have an ill grandfather I really see a difference in how I'm handling things with him after read Mortality. It may not be your cup of tea, but it is a quick read and I found comfort in it :)
